On Monday, food magazine Bon Appétittweeted out a link to a recipe for something called "hand salad." While the name is distasteful and can bring to mind some other horrible, more literal scenarios, the tweet came with a photo that shows you exactly what hand salad is in this case.

Guess now we've reached a point in our society where we feel we can dip individual rom aine leaves into dressing and call it a "dish."

"We call this a hand salad because lettuce and dip just doesn’t sound like nearly as much fun," the recipe begins.

Unfortunately for Bon Appétit, Twitter quickly started pointing out that the entire idea of hand salad isn't fun. It's actually terrible.

Some people took the idea of the hand salad, and put their own spin on the recipe.

And the others took "hand salad" very literally.

It seems pretty clear that hand salads are dead on arrival. This will never become a food trend, and for that we are grateful. Unless...

Now that is an intriguing idea we could get behind.
