Variations of the hashtag #UndiesOutForSam have been trending after a curious and frankly horrific article was published in Daily Mail AustraliaSunday that criticised Australian TV personality Samantha Armytage for her choice of intimates.

Armytage was not sporting external undies à la Superman. Rather, she was out in public and her underwear was definitely beneath her clothes.

There are so many things wrong here. For example, what's the problem with not wanting your underwear to fall down? Nothing provides security more than elastic around your belly.

But most importantly, Armytage should be free to wear whatever she likes without comment or criticism -- a fact social media pointed out again and again in the deluge of backlash to the piece.

In an act of underwear solidarity, users also posted pictures of themselves wearing or displaying their fave granny panties -- supporting Armytage's freedom to choose whatever type of underwear she damn well pleases.

As one tweeter pointed out, unless you're a superhero "who bloody cares" what undies you wear. Too right.
